Overview

The RFB&D Download Manager application is required to download your AudioPlus books. Each PC that will be used to download books will need this application installed.

Installation

Before starting the installation, be sure that you are logged into the computer using an account that has sufficient permissions to install software. You will also need an active Internet connection and permissions to download and run software from the Internet.

To start the installation process, click on the RFB&D Download Manager link on the "My Downloads" page of the Customer Hub:

You will be prompted to either install or save the software:

Click "Run."  The software will download and then you will be prompted again whether to run the software:

Click "Run."  You should then see the opening screen of the installation program:

Click "Next" to continue.  You will then see the software license agreement:

Select "I accept the agreement" and click "Next."

The installer will then prompt to install using either "Typical" or "Custom" settings.

In most cases, the Typical Settings will work fine.  You can also adjust these settings after installation.  To continue with the typical settings, just click "Next."  See below for the available custom settings.

For a typical installation, that is all that is required and you are ready to complete the installation:

Just click the "Install" button to complete the installation process.  The installation should only take a few seconds.  When completed you will see a confirmation screen:

Click "Finish" to complete the installation.

Custom settings

Installation location:  The installer will prompt for a location in which to place the software:

If you have some reason to change the default location, you can do so using the "Browse"button.  Otherwise, just click "Next."

Start Menu Folder:  You can specify a different Start Menu folder for the program shortcut, or you can skip the Start Menu shortcut creation altogether.

Download and Media File locations:  Next, you can specify exactly where you want downloaded files to be placed, and following that, where you want the extracted audio files to be placed.  By default, these are set to My Documents\RFBD Downloads and My Documents\RFBD Media Files, respectively.  You can change them to whatever you like here.

Proxy settings:  If your internet connection uses a proxy server, RFB&D Download Manager must be told to use it.

In most cases, RFB&D Download Manager can just use the proxy settings that you use for Internet Explorer; this is selected by default.  If you want to specify different proxy settings, select the Manually enter option and click "Next" to enter those settings:

Activation and configuration

You should now launch the RFB&D Download Manager application from the Start Menu to activate and configure the software.  When you start the software for the first time, an "Activating RFB&D Download Manager" screen will appear:

The software will activate itself over the Internet and will configure settings. Click the "OK" button to start the RFB&D Download Manager application:

To change any of the options at any time, just select the "Options" item under the "View" menu.  The Download Manager has online help available under the "Help" menu.

Troubleshooting

When "Download" link is clicked, user is prompted to "save this file or find a program online to open it"

This problem is caused by a problem with the RFB&D Download Manager installation. If you have not installed RFB&D Download Manager, do so and try again. If you have installed RFB&D Download Manager and are seeing this screen, take the following steps to properly register the ".rfbd" file type on your PC:

1. Click "Cancel" to exit the "File Download" screen.
2. Open "My Computer" from the Start Menu or desktop.
3. Select the "Folder options" item under the "Tools" menu.
4. Go to the "File Types" tab and click "New."
5. Enter "RFBD" in the "File Extension" field and click "OK."
6. Be sure that the RFBD file type is selected and click the "Change…" button.
7. Choose "Select the program from a list and click "OK."
8. Select the "RFB&D Downloader" from the list of options if present. If not, click the "Browse" button and select the RFB&D Download Manager application from the location where you installed it (by default, C:\Program Files\RFBD\Download Manager.
9. Click "Close."

Uncheck the "Always ask" box and click the "Open" button. This will cause Internet Explorer to remember this selection for the future.

1. Select "Open with" and click the "Browse" button.
2. Select the "RFB&D Downloader" from the choices if present. If not, click the "Browse" button and select the RFB&D Download Manager application from the location where you installed it (by default, C:\Program Files\RFBD\Download Manager. Click "OK."
3. Check the "Do this automatically" check box so that Firefox remembers this for the future, and click "OK."

If you use a proxy server, be sure that the proxy options are set correctly. If options are set correctly, you can click the "Later" button to get past this screen temporarily.
