1. Which books will be available for downloading?
All AudioPlus books will be available for download. This includes books
that are being released in installments during recording.
2. Do I need an online-ordering account with RFB&D
to use AudioPlus downloadable books?
Yes, since the books are available by download only via the RFB&D Online
Ordering Center at www.rfbd.org, you will
need an online account to get your books. Setting
up an online account is simple and free.
3. When is an AudioPlus downloadable book applied
to my membership book limit?
As with AudioPlus textbooks on CD, downloaded AudioPlus books will be applied
to your membership book limit at the time the audiobook is ordered.
2. How do I know if I have the correct version of
the RFB&D Download Manager?
To check your version, start the program and select the "About RFB&D
Download Manager" item from the "Help" menu. You must
have version 1.2b or higher to use AudioPlus downloads.
3. Can I download AudioPlus books to my Apple Macintosh®
computer?
No. The RFB&D Download Manager software is required to download
books and is currently only available for Microsoft Windows. RFB&D is
developing a cross-platform download manager that will support Apple Mac
OS X and will release this in the near future.
1. Where do I go to download my AudioPlus books?
Log into the RFB&D online catalog and ordering center at https://custhub.rfbd.org
and click on the button "Log In to Order Now" at the top of the
page. Once you log in, click on "My Downloads."
2. What does the status "Uploading" mean?
Not all books are stored all at once on the RFB&D delivery network.
When you order a book that is in our reserve storage, it will have the status
"Uploading" until it has been added to our delivery network.
3. How long will it take my book to upload to the RFB&D delivery
network?
It usually takes less than 24 hours to upload a book once your order is
placed. Actual upload times depend on the size of the book and overall order
volume.
4. How large is an AudioPlus book?
The average AudioPlus book is 400 megabytes (MB). Sizes vary greatly. You
can see the total size of your specific AudioPlus book on the "My Downloads"
page.
5. How long does it take to download an AudioPlus book?
Download time depends on the size of the book and the speed of your Internet
connection. An average 400 MB book downloaded over a 1.5 Mbps connection
will take about 30-40 minutes.
6. Why do I need the RFB&D Download Manager application?
Each AudioPlus book consists of many separate files that are all required
to provide DAISY navigation. RFB&D Download Manager is needed
to keep track of all the parts of a book, to be sure that you download them
all, and to "unpack" and store the audio files in the correct
locations on your PC.
7. Where can I get RFB&D Download Manager?
You can download the RFB&D Download Manager installer at https://custhub.rfbd.org/Download/RFBDDownloadManager.exe.
8. How do I install RFB&D Download Manager?
Just download and run the installer and follow the prompts. For detailed
instructions, see the RFB&D
Download Manager installation guide.
9. Does the RFB&D Download Manager work with web proxy servers?
Yes. Proxy settings can be adjusted in the Proxy Server section of the Options
screen, found in the "View" menu.
10. Do I need special firewall settings to use RFB&D Download
Manager?
RFB&D Download Manager uses the same protocol as web browsers,
so no new ports need to be opened on your firewall. You will need to allow
access to http://download.technicolor.com to download books.
11. Where does RFB&D Download Manager save my books?
By default, the ZIP files used to simplify downloading are saved in
My Documents\RFBD Downloads. Each book is saved in its own subfolder. After
download, the individual book files are unpacked and stored in My Documents\RFBD
Media Files. Again, each book is saved in its own subfolder, with a separate
folder under that for each CD of the original AudioPlus book. You can change
these default locations in the "Saving Files" section of the Options
screen.
12. What's the difference between the "Saving" and "Opening"
locations in the Download Manager options?
The "Saving" location is where the chapter-sized ZIP files are
downloaded. The "Opening" location is where the audio files are
placed after unpacking.
13. Do I have to download the entire book before I can use it?
Yes. The DAISY format requires that all the files are present in order to
work correctly.
14. What if my download gets interrupted?
RFB&D Download Manager will remember where you left off and will
resume the download at that point.
1. Can I burn my AudioPlus book to a CD?
Yes. The Download Manager creates convenient subfolders under each
book to store the contents for each CD of the book. For each CD, just include
all the files underneath its subfolder when burning the disk. CDs can be
created using any standard CD burning software, using the "Data CD"
option.
2. Can I save my downloads to an external drive?
They can be saved to any location by changing the Download Manager
option. The external drive will need to be attached to the PC whenever you
want to read the books.
3. After downloading, where do I go to find my books?
By default, RFB&D Download Manager automatically places your
AudioPlus books under "My Documents\RFBD Media Files" (this can
be changed in the program options). Each book is stored in a separate folder,
identified by RFB&D product number.
4. When I play my book, it prompts me to "please
insert CD 2". What should I do?
AudioPlus downloadable books maintain the structure of the original CD versions.
The files for each CD are stored in separate subfolders on your computer
labeled "CD01", "CD02", etc. When prompted to "insert"
a new CD, just browse in your player to the appropriate CD subfolder to
continue.
